Do We Need Technologies at Schools?

Modern technologies made such things possible that people have never dreamt of before! Technologies made life much more practical and easier for us. Nowadays, majority of people as well as companies depend on computers in their everyday life and are not able to operate properly without them. Today innovations are not only connected with business, its services and goods, but they are beginning to be a part of the academic system too. It is not uncommon that numerous schools today give a laptop or an iPad to their students to use during lessons. So are modern technologies beneficial to students? Or do they have certain disadvantages?

The first and probably the biggest advantage that comes to mind is that students as well as teachers are able to access unlimited resources of the internet to get almost every piece of information they need for the class and general development. The Internet is full of unlimited facts that can considerably benefit a student. These facts are given openly so that every learner can conveniently use the information. In the past, moms and dads were encouraged to purchase pricey encyclopaedia sets since it was believed that their children could benefit from it. However, with the World Wide Web, such products became simply needless.

Computers encourage curiosity and help students to discover this world on their own.  So, in such a way, computers can additionally serve as tutors for school and college children. But benefits of innovations are not only limited to the discovering procedure. Modern technologies also enable teachers and students to share or provide their concepts and ideas in a more effective and hassle-free way. Instruments such as interactive whiteboards, multi-touch displays, electronic projectors and so on are a few of the means which can be used in educational establishments to use in-class time more effectively.

Those were advantages and now let’s take a look at disadvantages. First of all, computers have a potential to distract students. For example, students start to study on the topic that’s assigned to them and then start wandering into things that are totally unconnected to the lesson. Using technology in schools and colleges also decreases communication between teachers and students which can influence communication abilities of the youngsters. Other than that, using computers will also affect the way children socialize with their schoolmate and peers.

Poverty of some families can also prevent  from having access to the modern technologies. There are students that do not have computers and internet at home, so while they can freely use them at school, they will certainly have trouble keeping up with lessons at home. One more drawback of innovations is the price. It consists of the cost of the gadget itself and the training that is required for a staff of the educational establishment.

So, regular usage of innovation in the educational process has its ups as and downs. Technologies only develop more and more each day and there is no indicator that this process will slow down or stop soon. However, technologies alone can not fulfil needs of the youngsters when it comes to their education and learning. So it is important that there is a balance of modern technologies and human touch.
